Biggest Morning Tea

2012_0531BigMorningTea0015From Canny Coventry:

The sun shone brightly on the 31st of May— the day of our Biggest Morning Tea for cancer research. Swinburne never looked better and very welcoming to all those who attended–96 in all. Delicious scones and sandwiches made by all the "bowling girls “were served along with tea & coffee.

Our "Stars" of the morning were Mr Robert Ingpen, Designer & Artist of the Bronze Doors, and the Tapestry which was woven by the Australian Tapestry Workshop. His talk was wonderful & so enlightening you could hear "a pin drop". We were all blessed to learn & hear from Bob of his journey with these magnificent works of art which are very much part of the Melbourne Cricket Club.

The Honourable Alan McDonald a past member of the MCC Committee was the auctioneer for a beautiful bottle of wine from Best’s vineyards at Mount Gambier. He declared he had never been an auctioneer before — I think he has tho" as he was very professional & extraordinarily funny & managed a very good price the wine. He could set his sights on new profession!

Jane Nathan, member of the MCC Committee & a great supporter of the women bowlers was her usual best self in drawing the raffle, as you can imagine lots of fun comments were made while presenting the prizes to the winners.

At last!! We were thrilled to have a sunny day so those that wished to, joined Gerry Teague on the green for a lesson on the intricacies (SP) of the game of bowls. Well done Gerry, as I think we are about to have some new members join.

My most sincere thanks to all those involved in this special day.

My gratitude to Ian Cave, Chairman of MCC Bowls Section, for giving us the opportunity to use Swinburne Avenue for this very worthwhile function for cancer research.

We donated a cheque to the value of $ 2.086.00.
