Vale – John Sykes

Dear Members,

It is with deep regret that we advise members that John Sykes passed away this morning after a long battle with cancer. John was 85 years old and a 15 year member of the Section until illness forced his resignation in January this year.

John will be sorely missed around the club for his friendship on and off the green. He was always happy to volunteer his assistance with functions and other tasks as required. He was a great clubman and avid Demons supporter who was often at the ‘G’ watching them play.

Condolences to John’s family.

An absolute gentleman and a great loss to the Club, I thoroughly enjoyed playing with Syko in the 6 a side team and his assistance during my time as a Tuesday Selector, he will be sadly missed

What a significant loss to MCC Bowls Section with the passing of Syko. A wonderful club man and friend to all that knew him.
Syko you will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of meeting you. We are blessed to have enjoyed your friendship for all those years.

Syko, so sad to hear of your passing.

I remember the days when I first played pennant against you and how competitive and team oriented you were, you had such a will to win and feared no contest. I thought then what a great acquisition you would be to MCC Bowls and indicated to you as such..

When you finally joined MCC the Club had a winner. You had many friends at the club who appreciated your efforts when representing the club. The appreciation did not stop when illness prevented you from being on the green it continued on as you supported the various teams from the sidelines. Can never forget the hot Saturdays when you would have nice cold bottles and cups of water for anyone and everyone and encouraging us on to victory.

Enjoyed Johns chats about family and sport, his two great loves. John you were the ultimate team man off and on the green or field. You will be sadly missed.
