It is with deep regret that we advise members who knew Paul Finn that he passed away on Tuesday 20 October. Paul was 92 years old and a 24 year member of the Section until illness forced his resignation in 2018.

Vale – John Sykes

Dear Members,

It is with deep regret that we advise members that John Sykes passed away this morning after a long battle with cancer. John was 85 years old and a 15 year member of the Section until illness forced his resignation in January this year.

John will be sorely missed around the club for his friendship on and off the green. He was always happy to volunteer his assistance with functions and other tasks as required. He was a great clubman and avid Demons supporter who was often at the ‘G’ watching them play.

Condolences to John’s family.

Laser Measures

Bowls Australia has approved the use of 3 different brands of laser measures which may be used to measure for shot.  Any player is permitted to purchase and use one of the approved laser measures in competition provided that s/he is competent in its use.  A BA Memorandum has been released describing how to use each of the 3 approved devices. Copies of the memorandum should be available on the BA website. Otherwise a copy can be provided by John Graham (Mob. 0417 034 417).

Vale Jack Arundel

Dear Members,

I was very saddened to receive a phone call from Terry Connolly advising that his father-in-law Jack Arundel passed away last night (8 August) after a very sudden illness.

Jack was 95 years old and had been a member of the Section for nearly 23 years. Jack was regular bowler until no longer physically able to and then became a regular member of the Bridge players at Glen Street on a Monday and Friday. I know that Jack made a great contribution to the Section and will be sadly missed by those who knew him. A private ceremony will be held with family members only.

Condolences to his daughter Penny, Terry and family.

Vale David Quin Former Member

David Quin, aged 92 and a long time member of MCC Bowls Club, died yesterday after a prolonged illness.  He played pennant for the club until required to resign for health reasons, some years ago.  An excellent club member for all his time at the club.  Although he was aged, there may be some members of the club who still remember him and would be pleased to be informed as to his death.  An excellent man in every respect.  There is no funeral notice yet or details re a funeral.  In this current Covid-19 time the idea of a formal large scale funeral is unlikely.  If any further details are required his daughter Catherine can be reached on mobile 0404017418.
