Vale Miller Goodwin


Dear Members,

It is with great sadness that I advise of the passing of Miller Goodwin on Sunday 3rd March 2019.

Miller was 88 years old and a Life Member of the Bowls Section. He joined the Bowls Section in February 1975 and played 628 games.

All those who knew Miller will miss his happy smiling face around club.

Our condolences to his wife Jan and family.

UPDATE: The Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Miller Goodwin is to be held at our Swinburne Avenue Clubrooms on Friday 15 March 2019 commencing at 11.00am.

MCC Bowls Section Ties Required

Ian Cave is looking to see if any members have a MCC Bowls Section tie that they could lend him for the upcoming MCC trip to Hong Kong.

These ties were available a few years ago and are red, silver and blue with a small logo down MCC Bowls Section written down the bottom.

He is after approximately 9 ties for trip for members to wear to a dinner and then be returned to you at the end of the trip.

If you have one and are able to lend it to Ian Cave for their upcoming trip could you please contact Ian on 040418 991 002 or bring it down to the club on Saturday.

Yarra Region Mixed Pairs Final

This Sunday Tris Doolan and Ray Jansen will compete in the Yarra Region Mixed Pairs Final.

The game will be played at Darebin City Bowls Club from 10am. We encourage as many people to get down and show their support as possible.

A note if you are coming that there is a cycling event on at the same time, so all spectators are encouraged to park in the back car park on the corner of Arthur St and Darebin Rd.

MCG Footy Function – Ebeling Room – Updated Pricing

The date for our first MCG Footy Function in the Ebeling Room has been set as Thursday 21st March (Round 1 – Carlton vs Richmond).

We’ll be doing the same format as previous years with a Cocktail Style Function with finger food before the game and at half time, plus a 4 hours drinks package.

When: Thursday 21st March 2019 – game starts at 7.20pm – function to start approximately 5.30pm
Game: Carlton vs Richmond (Round 1) – First game of the season
Where: Ebeling Room – MCG

End of Season Breakups 2019

Next Tuesday 26th February is our last game of Midweek Pennant and Saturday 2nd March is our last game of Saturday Pennant for season 2018/19.

At the conclusion of each of these days a breakup get together will be held at the Swinburne Avenue club rooms to celebrate another great year. All players are encouraged to come back to the club rooms to socialise with fellow members from all sides. Food and a free drink will be provided.

Weekly Update

Now that the season is back in full swing, we’ve got a few updates on what’s been happening and will be happening over the next few weeks.

  • Congratulations to Michael Wilson and Tris Doolan on winning the Club Singles Championships (full results will be available on the website shortly)
  • Congratulations to Ray Jansen and Tris Doolan on winning the Yarra Region Singles Championships
  • We have an all MCC Yarra Region Men’s Triples Final this coming Monday night (4th Feb) which will be held at Swinburne Avenue from 7pm as well as the Women’s Triples Final between North Balwyn and Montmorency. The teams include Michael Wilson, Robby Millar and Dan Mars vs Michael Haigh, Simon Naughton and Ray Jansen)
  • This Sunday (3rd Feb), Swinburne Avenue greens will be unavailable for any members use as the Yarra Region will be holding their Women’s Regional Side Trials from 10am to 4pm. Also congratulations to all our bowlers who have been invited to trial for the side. Trials continue on Wednesday (6th Feb) for the trials at Swinburne Avenue, so the greens will be unavailable between 5.30pm and 8pm.
  • A note that the restriction on playing club games on a Thursday will return from this Thursday (31st Jan). This time is set aside for rink practice as we are heading into the pointy end of the season.

The last few weeks have been very successful at the club and we are hoping to take this into the last few weeks of the season and into the finals. As always CARN C’s.
